The Azienda Agricola Morgassi Superiore is located in the municipality of Gavi, in the province of Alessandria.
It is a 60-hectare estate, of which 19 are planted to Cortese and 1 to Timorasso and with a potential for new plantings of 6 hectares.
The winery was established in 1992 by Marino Piacitelli on land that had been fallow for more than 20 years but was historically suited to the task. In fact, local history tells us that the first Cortese vineyards were planted in Piona, where part of Morgassi is located.
Production is concentrated on Cortese for the production of Gavi di Gavi DOCG and a small quantity of Timorasso.
In an effort to focus increasingly on the potential of the 'terroir,' world-renowned agronomic consultants Lydia and Claude Bourguignon joined the team to analyze in detail the subsoil of the various vineyard parcels and to begin the conversion of the winery to organic.
The vineyard soils are all clay-limestone and represent a true 'terroir,' as The vineyards are planted on the ridges of the "a ritocchino" slope, with south-southwest exposure, and are all grassed over.
The intervention of agronomists Claude and Lydia Bourguignon has regulated drains and water drainage in a highly meticulous and efficient manner.
Work in the vineyard is all carried out by hand.
